Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Layer

  • 11 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 7 ounces marshmallow fluff

Caramel Layer

  • 11 ounces soft chewy caramels, unwrapped
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk

Chocolate Coating

  • 10 ounces Ghirardelli chocolate melting wafers
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan: Line an 8×8 inch pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the bar layers later.
  2. Melt chocolate mixture: In a large saucepan over low-medium heat, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and half (1/3 cup) of the evaporated milk. Stir frequently for 4-5 minutes until the mixture becomes silky smooth. Then, stir in the marshmallow fluff until fully combined.
  3. Add chocolate layer: Pour the combined chocolate and marshmallow mixture into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Place the pan in the refrigerator to allow this layer to set firmly.
  4. Melt caramel mixture: Using a clean saucepan, combine the unwrapped caramels with the remaining half (1/3 cup) of evaporated milk over low-medium heat. Stir frequently until the caramel mixture is silky smooth and well combined.
  5. Add caramel layer: Pour the smooth caramel mixture over the set chocolate layer in the pan, smoothing it out evenly. Chill the layered pan in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to fully set.
  6. Cut into bars: After the caramel set, use the parchment paper to lift the layered slab out of the pan. Cut into 16 bars by making one vertical cut down the middle and seven horizontal cuts across each half.
  7. Prepare baking sheet: Line a 9×13 inch baking sheet with parchment paper to place the coated bars for their final chill.
  8. Melt chocolate coating: Place the Ghirardelli chocolate melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 50% power for 1 minute, then stir. Add vegetable oil and continue microwaving in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring after each interval until the coating is smooth and melted.
  9. Coat with chocolate: Using two forks or dipping tools, carefully dip each Milky Way bar fully into the melted chocolate to coat it evenly. Place the coated bars onto the prepared baking sheet.
  10. Final chill: Refrigerate the chocolate-coated bars on the baking sheet for 30 minutes to set the coating before serving. Enjoy your homemade Milky Way bars chilled.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper to easily lift and cut the bars without sticking.
  • Be patient with melting mixtures on low-medium heat to avoid burning the chocolate or caramel.
  • The vegetable oil helps create a smooth and shiny chocolate coating.
  • Store finished bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • For cleaner cuts, warm your knife blade under hot water and dry between slices.
