Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 teaspoons matcha tea powder
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 6 to 8 ice cubes
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Combine base ingredients: In a mason jar, add matcha powder, dark brown sugar, vanilla bean paste, warm water, and sweetened condensed milk. Use an electric hand whisk to thoroughly combine all ingredients until smooth.
  2. Remove clumps: Scrape the bottom and sides of the jar with a mixing spoon to ensure there are no clumps of matcha powder remaining for a smooth texture.
  3. Add dairy and ice: Pour in the milk and heavy cream, then add 2 to 3 ice cubes to the jar. Close the lid tightly to prepare for shaking.
  4. Shake to froth: Shake the mason jar vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the mixture is frothy and well blended.
  5. Serve: Pour the shaken matcha latte into a glass filled with the remaining 4 to 5 ice cubes. Optionally, top with whipped cream and dust additional matcha powder over the top before enjoying.

Notes

  • Use warm water to help dissolve the matcha powder evenly without clumps.
  • Adjust the sweetness by increasing or decreasing the amount of brown sugar and condensed milk to your preference.
  • Vanilla bean paste adds a richer vanilla flavor but vanilla extract works as a convenient alternative.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute milk and heavy cream with almond, oat, or soy milk and coconut cream.
  • Shaking the mixture well is key to achieving a frothy, creamy texture typical of this latte.
