Celebrate the holidays with these festive Christmas Cherry Bombs: maraschino cherries soaked in peppermint schnapps, dipped in smooth white chocolate, and sprinkled with crushed peppermint candies for a refreshing and indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cherries

  • 10 ounces maraschino cherries with stems
  • ¼ cup peppermint schnapps

Coating

  • 5 ounces white chocolate melting discs
  • ¼ cup peppermint candies, finely crushed (from 1012 pieces)

Instructions

  1. Prepare cherries: Remove the lid from the jar of maraschino cherries and carefully drain out ¼ cup of the juice while keeping the cherries inside the jar.
  2. Add peppermint schnapps: Pour ¼ cup of peppermint schnapps into the jar with the cherries, replace the lid, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to overnight to let the cherries soak and absorb the peppermint flavor.
  3. Dry cherries: After soaking, remove cherries from the jar and place them on a paper towel-lined plate. Pat them dry thoroughly to ensure the chocolate coating adheres well.
  4. Prepare tray: Line a rimmed tray with parchment paper and set aside for the dipped cherries.
  5. Melt white chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, heat white chocolate discs at 50% power for 30 seconds to 1 minute, stir, then continue microwaving in 15-30 second intervals until completely melted and smooth, stirring between each heating.
  6. Dip cherries in chocolate: Holding each dry cherry by the stem, dip approximately three-quarters of the cherry into the melted white chocolate.
  7. Add crushed peppermint: Immediately dip the bottom of the white chocolate-coated cherry into the finely crushed peppermint candies, then place onto the prepared tray with the stem pointing upwards. Repeat for all cherries.
  8. Chill: Refrigerate the tray of cherry bombs for 30 minutes to allow the chocolate to set before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure cherries are dry before dipping to prevent the chocolate from sliding off.
  • The longer cherries soak in schnapps, the stronger the peppermint flavor will become.
  • Use high-quality white chocolate melting discs for best texture and flavor.
  • Crushed peppermint candies can be adjusted in quantity based on preference.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
