Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 6 burger buns, split
  • Cooking spray

Beef Mixture

  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Toppings

  • 3 slices cheddar cheese, quartered
  • Ketchup, for serving
  • Yellow mustard, for serving
  • 12 pickle chips
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the muffin tin and buns: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a muffin tin well with cooking spray. Using a rolling pin, flatten each burger bun half to about 1/4 inch thick. Place each flattened bun half cut-side up into the prepared muffin cups, forming the base cups.
  2. Sauté onions and cook beef: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and no longer pink, about 6 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Season and fill buns: Return the beef mixture to the skillet and season with garlic powder, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Mix well. Spoon the beef mixture evenly into each prepared bun cup. Top each with a quartered slice of cheddar cheese.
  4. Bake the cheeseburger cups: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the bun cups are golden brown on the edges.
  5. Add toppings and serve: Remove the cheeseburger cups from the oven. Drizzle each cup with ketchup and yellow mustard, then place a pickle chip on top. Finally, sprinkle sesame seeds over each cup for garnish. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Flattening the buns helps them hold the filling and become crispy in the oven.
  • Feel free to customize toppings such as adding diced tomatoes or cooked bacon.
  • Cheddar cheese can be replaced with any meltable cheese of your choice.
  • These cups can be made ahead and reheated briefly in the oven to maintain crispiness.
  • Use lean ground beef for a less greasy result.
