4.7 from 101 reviews

This Caramel Crunch Tart combines a buttery Oreo crust with a luscious layer of smooth caramel, topped with a delightful blend of bittersweet chocolate and crispy Rice Krispies, finished with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt for the perfect balance of sweet and salty crunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 20 Oreos
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Filling

  • 1 (12-oz.) jar caramel

Topping

  • 1 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup Rice Krispies cereal
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Place the Oreos in a food processor and pulse until they become fine crumbs. Transfer the crumbs to a medium bowl, then add the melted butter and stir until the mixture is well combined.
  2. Form the crust: Pour the Oreo and butter mixture into a 9-inch tart pan. Using your hands or a flat-bottomed object, press the mixture evenly into the bottom and up the sides of the pan to create a consistent crust layer.
  3. Add the caramel layer: Pour the jar of caramel over the Oreo crust and spread it smoothly and evenly. Place the tart in the refrigerator and chill until the caramel is firm and cold, approximately 15 minutes.
  4. Melt the chocolate chips: In a medium heatproof bowl, microwave the bittersweet chocolate chips in 30-second increments, stirring well between each, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth, about 1 minute total.
  5. Mix chocolate and cereal: Immediately add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted chocolate and stir until every bit of cereal is thoroughly coated with chocolate.
  6. Top and chill: Pour the chocolate and cereal mixture evenly over the chilled caramel layer, smoothing it out with a spatula. Sprinkle flaky sea salt generously over the top. Refrigerate the tart until the chocolate is completely set, for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.

Notes

  • For best slicing results, chill the tart overnight to ensure all layers are fully set.
  • You can substitute Oreos with any chocolate sandwich cookie for a different flavor profile.
  • Use good quality bittersweet chocolate chips to balance the sweetness of the caramel.
  • Flaky sea salt enhances the flavor by creating a sweet and salty contrast.
  • Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
