Viral Chocolate Banana Bark Recipe

5.2 from 20 reviews

This Viral Chocolate Banana Bark is a easy and delicious frozen treat combining semi-ripe bananas, creamy peanut butter, and rich dark chocolate. Perfect for a refreshing snack or dessert, this no-bake recipe requires minimal prep and freezes to create a satisfying, sweet, and slightly salty bark with optional flaky sea salt on top.

Ingredients

Scale

Banana Base

  • 2 medium semi-ripe bananas

Peanut Butter Layer

  • 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons drippy, creamy peanut butter

Chocolate Topping

  • 1.5 cups dark chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare baking sheet: Line a medium-sized baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy removal of the bark.
  2. Slice bananas: Peel the bananas and slice them into 1/3-inch thick slices, preferably on a slight angle to allow better fitting. Try to keep the slices even in size for uniform freezing and appearance.
  3. Arrange banana slices: Lay the banana slices out in a rectangular shape on the lined baking sheet, making sure they are touching to help hold the bark together after freezing.
  4. Spread peanut butter: Evenly spread the peanut butter over the bananas using a rubber spatula. If the peanut butter is too thick, microwave it for 10-15 seconds to soften. Once covered, place the baking sheet in the freezer for 20 minutes to let the peanut butter set.
  5. Melt chocolate: Place the dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe dish and heat in 30-second intervals until mostly melted. Stir thoroughly to fully melt the chocolate, taking care not to burn it. Optionally, stir in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to make the chocolate smoother.
  6. Coat with chocolate: Remove the peanut butter-covered banana bark from the freezer and pour the melted chocolate over it, spreading evenly. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt or any other optional toppings to enhance flavor.
  7. Freeze to set: Return the bark to the freezer for at least 90 minutes or up to 2 hours to ensure the chocolate sets completely and the bark is firm.
  8. Serve: Once fully set, remove the bark, flip it over, peel off the parchment paper, and break into large pieces. Serve immediately and enjoy this delicious frozen treat!

Notes

  • Use semi-ripe bananas for the best balance of sweetness and firmness.
  • Drippy, creamy peanut butter spreads easily—use natural peanut butter with oil separation if preferred.
  • Adding coconut oil to the melted chocolate helps achieve a smoother texture and shinier finish.
  • Flaky sea salt adds a nice contrast to the sweetness but can be omitted if desired.
  • Store leftover bark in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 week.
  • For variation, try different nut butters or add nuts and dried fruit on top before freezing.
