Cookies:

  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2½ cups (300 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup (150 g) light brown sugar
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (49 ml) maple syrup
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract

Spiced Sugar Coating:

  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

Maple Glaze:

  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 34 tablespoons (4560 ml) maple syrup
  • 12 tablespoons (1530 ml) melted butter

Instructions

  1. Melt: In a small bowl, melt the butter and cool in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
  2. Whisk: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt until well combined.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk in the melted butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Add the egg, egg yolk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract. Stir until smooth.
  4. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Preheat and Rest Dough: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Let the dough rest while the oven preheats.
  6. Coat and Bake: Roll dough into spiced sugar, place on baking sheet, and bake for 9-11 minutes. Cool on a rack.
  7. Make Glaze: Whisk melted butter, maple syrup, and powdered sugar until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cookies.
