Instant Pot Applesauce Recipe

4.9 from 76 reviews

This Instant Pot Applesauce recipe is a simple and quick way to make homemade applesauce using mixed varieties of apples, spices, and minimal ingredients. The pressure cooking method softens the apples perfectly, allowing you to mash them into a smooth or chunky applesauce. It’s a comforting, naturally sweet treat that can be enjoyed immediately or stored for later.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 3 lbs. apples (mixed variety, about 56 large apples)

Liquids & Spices

  • ⅓ cup water
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel the apples: Using a vegetable peeler, carefully peel the skin off each apple to prepare them for cooking.
  2. Core and chop apples: Remove the cores and cut the apples into large 2-inch chunks to ensure even cooking inside the Instant Pot.
  3. Add ingredients to Instant Pot: Place the cut apples, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg into a 6-quart Instant Pot. Secure the lid and seal the pressure release valve.
  4. Pressure cook the apples: Set the Instant Pot to manual mode on high pressure for 7 minutes. Once cooking time is complete, perform a quick release of the pressure valve immediately.
  5. Mash and finish the applesauce: Use a potato masher to mash the cooked apples to your preferred consistency. Stir in lemon juice if using. Serve warm or chill and store in the refrigerator for up to 7 to 10 days.

Notes

  • Using a mix of apple varieties gives a balanced flavor—sweet and tart.
  • Adjust cinnamon and nutmeg amounts to suit your taste preferences.
  • Lemon juice helps preserve color and adds a slight tang but is optional.
  • For a smoother applesauce, use a blender or immersion blender after cooking.
  • Store applesauce in an airtight container refrigerated to keep fresh for up to 10 days.
