This Ham Steak with Maple Glaze recipe offers a quick, flavorful way to prepare ham steaks with a sweet and tangy homemade glaze. Perfectly seared in a skillet and finished with a luscious maple syrup glaze, this dish combines savory and sweet notes for a delicious meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Ham Steaks

  • 1 lb Ham steaks (4 x 4-oz steaks, at least 1/4 inch thick)

Maple Glaze

  • 1/4 cup Maple syrup
  • 1/2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Pat dry the ham steaks: Use paper towels to thoroughly pat the ham steaks dry, which helps achieve a good sear.
  2. Prepare the maple glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper until well combined.
  3. Sear the ham steaks: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the unsalted butter. Add the ham steaks in a single layer and cook for about 3 minutes on each side, or until both sides are golden brown.
  4. Add and simmer the glaze: Pour the maple glaze mixture evenly over the ham steaks in the skillet. The glaze will bubble immediately. Simmer for approximately 2 minutes, flipping the ham occasionally, until the glaze thickens and coats the steaks.

Notes

  • For best results, choose ham steaks that are at least 1/4 inch thick to prevent drying out during cooking.
  • Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup based on personal preference.
  • You can serve these ham steaks alongside mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated gently in a skillet or microwave.
  • Be careful not to overcook the ham to maintain juiciness and flavor.
