Brownie Layer:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

French Silk Topping:

  • 8 ounce cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels, melted and cooled
  • 16 ounces Cool Whip, thawed and divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9-inch baking dish with baking spray or line with parchment paper.
  2. Melt butter and chocolate: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Turn off heat and add chocolate morsels and sugar. Blend until chocolate is melted.
  3. Prepare brownie batter: Add eggs one at a time, then fold in vanilla extract. Mix in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined.
  4. Bake brownies: Pour batter into the baking dish and bake for 40 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
  5. Make French silk topping: Beat cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Mix in melted chocolate, then fold in half of the Cool Whip.
  6. Assemble: Spread the mixture over the cooled brownies. Top with the remaining Cool Whip. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
  7. Serve: Sprinkle with chocolate shavings before serving cold.
