Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 1 bag Starlight Peppermint Candy (about 12 ounces)
  • 1 bag Wilton Candy Melts (approximately 8 ounces, optional)
  • Holiday Sprinkles (as desired, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Begin by setting your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare it for melting the peppermint candies evenly without burning.
  2. Crush the Peppermints: Place the Starlight Peppermint Candy into a ziplock bag and crush them into small pieces using a kitchen mallet or a rolling pin to ensure they melt smoothly in the molds.
  3. Fill the Spoon Molds: Using a teaspoon, carefully fill each spoon mold with the crushed peppermint pieces. Pay special attention to filling extra at the top of the spoon bowl and the neck area to prevent breakage in these vulnerable spots.
  4. Melt the Peppermint: Place the filled spoon molds on a baking sheet and put them in the oven. Allow them to melt completely, which should take around 10 minutes depending on your oven. Around 8 minutes in, check and add additional crushed peppermint to any thin spots, then continue baking for a few more minutes until fully melted.
  5. Cool the Candy Spoons: Remove the molds from the oven and let them cool completely to solidify the shapes.
  6. Remove from Molds: Gently separate the sides of the molds and carefully remove the hardened peppermint spoons. If a spoon breaks, simply add crushed peppermint to the affected area and bake for a few more minutes to mend it.
  7. Optional – Add Chocolate and Sprinkles: Melt the Wilton Candy Melts according to package instructions. Dip the handle or end of the peppermint spoon into the melted chocolate and then immediately into holiday sprinkles. Place the decorated spoons on wax paper until the chocolate hardens.

Notes

  • Use a heavy mallet or rolling pin to evenly crush the peppermints without pulverizing them into dust for better melting results.
  • Keep a close eye while melting the candy to avoid burning or overcooking.
  • The extra peppermint added mid-melting helps reinforce fragile spots and improves the structural integrity of the spoon.
  • Cool the spoons completely before removing to prevent breakage.
  • The chocolate and sprinkle coating is optional but adds a festive and delicious touch.
  • Store completed candy spoons in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crispness.
