A decadent and indulgent Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Bake perfect for a special brunch or cozy morning treat. This recipe combines flaky mini croissants, rich cream cheese custard, and melty semi-sweet chocolate chips baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Croissants and Chocolate

  • 1 (10 to 13-oz) package mini croissants, chopped
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Cream Cheese Custard

  • 2 (8-oz) packages cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350ºF and lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray to ensure the bake does not stick.
  2. Arrange Croissants and Chocolate: Place the chopped mini croissant pieces evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the croissants for bursts of chocolate throughout.
  3. Make the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, beat the room temperature cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract, continuing to mix until the mixture is well blended and uniform.
  4. Add Milk and Combine: Pour in the 2 cups of milk and mix again until the custard mixture is fully combined and smooth.
  5. Pour Custard Over Croissants: Evenly pour the cream cheese custard mixture over the croissant and chocolate chip layer in the baking pan, making sure all pieces are covered.
  6. Let Soak: Allow the bake to stand at room temperature for 20 minutes to let the custard soak into the croissants. Alternatively, cover and refrigerate overnight for more indulgent soaking and enhanced flavor melding.
  7. Bake: Bake the dish uncovered in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
  8. Serve Warm: Remove from oven and serve warm for a rich and comforting breakfast treat.

Notes

  • You can prepare this the night before and bake fresh in the morning for convenience.
  • Use mini croissants for best texture and custard absorption; larger croissants may require adjusting soaking time.
  • For extra decadence, sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top before baking.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently before serving.
  • If desired, substitute whole milk with 2% milk or a milk alternative like almond milk, though this may slightly alter the richness.
