Cinnamon Roll Dough:

- 3/4 cup water

- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Cookie Dough Filling:
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar (packed)
- 1/8 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 1 ounce cream cheese (cold)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla paste or extract
- Make the Cinnamon Roll Dough – Whisk water and flour in a saucepan. Cook until thickened into a roux. Set aside. Whisk flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a mixing bowl. Add cream, milk, egg, vanilla, and tangzhong. Knead until smooth. Add butter and knead until elastic. Knead in mini chocolate chips. Let dough rest.
- Make the Cookie Dough Filling – Cream butter and sugars. Mix in egg and vanilla. Add flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Bake and Fill the Rolls – Roll out dough into a rectangle. Spread cookie dough mixture, sprinkle chocolate chips, roll into strips, and place in a baking pan. Let rise, then bake. Make frosting while rolls bake. Spread frosting on warm rolls before serving.
