This Cardamom Coffee Cake recipe combines the warm, aromatic flavors of cardamom and cinnamon in a moist and tender cake that’s perfect for breakfast or a coffee break treat.

Topping:

  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Cake:

  • 4 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 Eggs – large
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 cups Cake Flour * – spooned and leveled, see note
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Ground Cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 16 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter – softened to room temperature

Instructions

  1. Make the Topping – In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, ground cardamom, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. Make the Cake – Preheat oven, prepare pan, mix wet ingredients, whisk dry ingredients, combine with butter, mix, pour into pan, add topping, bake until set, and cool before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature.
  • This cake pairs wonderfully with a cup of hot coffee or tea.
