4.9 from 135 reviews

Crispy and golden Air Fryer French Fries made from fresh russet potatoes tossed in olive oil and seasoned with kosher salt. These fries are perfectly cooked in the air fryer, resulting in a healthier alternative to deep-fried fries, with optional fresh herb garnish and served with ketchup for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 2 medium russet potatoes (about 1 lb.), sliced lengthwise into 1/4″-thick fries

Seasoning & Garnish

  • 1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp. kosher salt, plus more for seasoning after cooking
  • Finely chopped fresh herbs (such as parsley, thyme, and oregano), for garnish, optional

Serving

  • Ketchup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare Potatoes: Wash and peel the russet potatoes if preferred, then slice them lengthwise into 1/4-inch-thick fries ensuring even size for uniform cooking.
  2. Toss Fries: In a large bowl, toss the sliced potatoes with 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil and 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, making sure each fry is lightly coated.
  3. Arrange and Cook: Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, place the fries in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Cook at 400ºF for 12 to 15 minutes until fries are crisp and golden, and the centers are tender.
  4. Drain and Season: Transfer cooked fries to a wire rack set over a paper towel-lined baking sheet to drain excess oil. Immediately season with additional kosher salt to taste.
  5. Repeat for Remaining Fries: Repeat the air frying steps with the remaining potatoes, ensuring each batch is cooked evenly.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Optionally sprinkle finely chopped fresh herbs like parsley, thyme, or oregano over the fries. Serve hot with ketchup for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra crispy fries, soak the sliced potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes before drying thoroughly to remove excess starch.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
  • You can use other herbs such as rosemary or chives for garnish depending on your preference.
  • If you prefer spiced fries, sprinkle paprika or garlic powder before air frying.
  • Cooking times may vary slightly depending on the air fryer model; check fries at 12 minutes to avoid overcooking.
